How to use DESIGN.md

The file is a brief for humans and a contract for agents. YAML tokens are normative; the prose explains why.

Where it lives

• Cursor — Root `DESIGN.md`, referenced from `.cursorrules` or `.cursor/rules/design.mdc`.
• Claude Code — Root `DESIGN.md` plus `.claude/skills/design/SKILL.md`, mentioned in CLAUDE.md.
• Codex — Tell `AGENTS.md` that all UI must obey DESIGN.md.
• Stitch — Import DESIGN.md (YAML front matter + the 8 official sections).

Lint

We lint contrast, token references, and section order before export, aligned with Google's `@google/design.md`.
